Points to remember
When hiring a skip
When Ordering a Skip
You as the customer acknowledge that you are requesting that a large, heavy, industrial piece of plant delivers a large, heavy, steel skip to your premsies. This is an inherently risky operation. By using the right equipment and well trained staff we try to mitigate any risk of damage but whoever places the order assumes full responsibility for making good any damage caused.
Be considerate about what you put in the skip
Beause when full it has be transported on a public road. It is the customers responsibility to ensure that the waste does not exceed the top of the skip (the level fill line), by law the driver can not collect overfilled skips as their license will be at risk. Where possible the driver will secure overfilled skips with heavy duty netting but if the load can not be secured the driver will have to unload the skip to a safe level. this is particluarly true for large bulky items (i.e. furniture)at.
What goes in, must come out
When the driver delivers your skip it is placed in such a postion that it can be collected easily and safely. Please do not under any circumstances move or attempt to move the skip once once delivered as it is hazardous to your health and may mean that we are unable to collect the skip when full.
CAN I PUT MATRESSES INTO THE SKIP?
Unfortunately not, as a business our main focus is ensuring 0% of your waste ends up in landfill. When mattresses arrive at our facility they are very difficult to recycle and can cause blockages in our sorting plant which drives up costs and has a negative impact on the recycling process as a whole. For this reason we have had to stop accepting mattresses. Most local authorities have a service for dropping off or collecting waste mattresses.
WHAT CAN I PUT IN THE SKIP?
As a rule of thumb, if it is hazardous to human health we can not accept it. If in doubt please give us a call. The list of unacceptable materials includes but is not limited to; Asbestos, liquids, powder, tree stumps, tyres, chemicals, gas bottles, beer kegs, sealed paint tins, fluorescent tubes, human waste, animal waste, animal products, clinical waste, any form of difficult hazardours or special waste.
If the skip is not going on your property
please let us know as you will need to ensure that the you have the owners permission. If the skip needs to be placed on council-owned property then it may be that your skip will need a permit from the local authority. We will arrange the permit without handling charge but Local Authorities do charge a flat rate fee for this which can be up to £100 depending on the local authority where the skip is going.
Empty Skips are heavy, full skips are really heavy
Please consider the surface when selecting a drop point and if necessary ask the drivers advice when they arrive, all our vehicles can carry equipment to offer limited protection to the floor from the skip and the driver will use this for certain surfaces (printed concrete, lawns etc) if you want your floor surface protected from the skip please make the advisor aware when booking the skip! please note that this equipment is very basic and in no way guarantees no damage will be caused.
We recommend a minimum access criteria of the following, 3.5m wide, 5m high and a site surface capable of withstanding 24 tonne weights. This is the hirers responsibility to check but we can not accept any responsibility for damage whatsoever or howsoever caused”.
CAN I PUT SOIL INTO THE SKIP?
In general waste skips we can not accept any soil (subsoil, turf, clay, topsoil etc), once soil is mixed in with other wastes it making recycling these wastes very difficult. As a business our priority is ensuring we are 0% landfill, when you use one of our skips you can be sure that as much of its contents as possible will re-enter the materials supply chain. How can I get rid of soil? We are able to offer skips for soil only. However this is subject to availability and will need to be checked with our office at the time of booking
REFUNDS FOR PRE PAID SKIPS
If you pay for your skip in advance and wish to cancel your skip that is absolutely fine and we will reimburse you in full without any deduction providing you let us know the day before it is due to be delivered. On the day it is very unlikely we will be able resell the slot that has been reserved for you and we will have lost the opportunity to hire that skip
FIRE DAMAGED SKIPS?
Skips are expensive to buy, expensive to paint and maintain. If you use your skip to house a fire (or otherwise misuse it) it will have to be scrapped and you will become liable for the cost of the replacement of that skip (2020 replacement costs are between £400+vat & £2500+vat depending on size)
